Northampton Saints play in Premiership Rugby, the top tier of rugby union on England. They are officially known as Northampton Rugby Football Club and are one of the most popular rugby union teams in the world. They were originally founded as Northampton St James in 1880. This is where they got their ‘Saints’ nickname from, dating back to the 1880s. Northampton play their home matches in the west of the town, at Franklin Gardens. The stadium has a capacity of 15,250 and is considered too small

The Saints play in black, green and gold and have a second nickname, the Jimmies! Their main rivals are the Leicester Tigers which is one of the biggest rivalries in English rugby. They contest the ‘East Midlands Derby’. Northampton have also had a recent rivalry with Saracens with the two teams playing each other a number of times. Saints beat Saracens in the hotly contested 2013-14 Premiership Rugby Final.

Northampton have won a total of six major trophies. The Saints were English Champions in 2014 and European Champions in 2000. They won the European Rugby Challenge Cup in 2009 and 2014, Premiership Rugby Cup in 2014 and the Anglo-Welsh Cup in 2010.
