Rotherham United are based in South Yorkshire and currently play in League One in English football. League One is the 3rd tier of the English football system. They were relegated from the Championship in the 2020-21 season. The club was formed in 1925 after a merger between two other Rotherham clubs that were founded much earlier. Rotherham County dated back to 1877 and Rotherham town were formed just before the turn of the century in 1899.

Rotherham United played at Milmoor before moving to the New York Stadium. The New York Stadium is an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 12,004. The club’s nickname is ‘The Millers’ and they play in red and white. They did previously play in black and yellow up to 1930. They won the Football League Trophy in 1996 and also the Football League North Cup in 1946.

The club’s main rivals include other Yorkshire clubs including Leeds and the Sheffield clubs.
